In general, the purpose of an aircraft transponder is to
A) monitor aircraft speed, heading, altitude, and attitude whenever the autopilot system is engaged.
B) continually transmit heading, speed, and rate of climb/decent etc. information to ATC.
C) receive an interrogation signal from a ground station and automatically send a reply back.
